Our Drop-In Center
is located next to the reception area of the Main Adult Detention Facility
at 2777 Ventura Avenue, Santa Rosa, California. Many visitors
come into the jail suffering and devastated due to the incarceration
of a loved one. They need someone to talk to. We provide a warm atmosphere
and a friendly ear. People also come in confused about the system they
are forced to deal with when they come to visit. We are able to help
them cope with and comprehend how to manage their lives while
someone they love is in the detention system.
INMATE'S BRIDGE:
At the center, we're a bridge for family members and professionals to get things
accomplished regarding inmates. We get signatures from inmates, cash checks, serve
legal papers, and provide information about community resources and services. Without
FRIENDS OUTSIDE family members could not have payroll checks cashed to pay rent;
essential legal papers would not be served; available resources would not be accessed.
We also bridge inmates with the outside world as we respond to hundreds of inmates'
written requests each month. We facilitate communication
with their loved ones by locating family members, convey important
information to employers, legal and county entities, and provide greeting cards for them to send to their
children and other family members with whom losing contact discourages successful release
and rehabilitation. We process legal documents, make connections with spiritual
advisors, locate recovery programs and transition services, and provide reading glasses.
Our DROP-IN CENTER and
INMATE'S BRIDGE programs are designed
to interface with, and compliment the Sheriff's Department. Our work eases tension inside
the jail for both Department staff and inmates.
